Men's Basketball Opens Season Against Wildcats

Canton, MO – The Hannibal-LaGrange University Men's Basketball Team headed north up highway 61 to Culver-Stockton College on Monday evening.  The two teams were even throughout the first half as the game was tied 33 all.  After some adjustments were made the Wildcats were able to pull away in the second half.

STAT TRACKER

  • Freshman, Joe McBride led the Trojans in scoring with 16 points.  He went 6-10 from the field and 3-4 from behind the arc.  
  • Michael Hood added 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals
  • Grant Peters led on the boards with eight rebounds while adding eight points.. 

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

  • The Trojans led by five with 12:05 on the clock after a three from McBride (12-7).
  • But after hitting a free throw HLGU went cold and did not hit another jumper till the 5:50 mark (16-21).  
  • The Wildcats jumped out and led by as much as nine points with four minutes in the first half before the Trojans pushed back and tied the game at the buzzer.
  • HLGU jumped up with a five point lead (42-37) after Peters went 1-2 from the free throw line.  
  • The Trojans led by one with about 12 minutes remaining (47-46) after a three from Landon Hall.  It was the last time the men had a lead in the game.
  • The big difference in the game between the two teams was in the turnover category where HLGU committed 17 and CSC had eight.
  • Both teams shooting percentages were similar except from the free throw line.

THOUGHTS FROM COACH DURST

  • "We competed in stretches last night defensively, but we need to work on being more consistent offensively.  We will learn from this first game and get ready for the College of the Ozarks on Saturday."
