Women's Basketball Opens Season at Oak Hill Inn and Suites Classic

Canton, MO – The Hannibal-LaGrange University Women's Basketball Team played back to back games on Friday and Saturday in the Oak Hills Inn and Suites Classic hosted by Culver-Stockton College.  The Trojans faced off against Iowa Wesleyan University on Friday night before taking on the host, Wildcats on Saturday.

STAT TRACKER

  • Shelby Maddox led the scoring for HLGU in game one with six going 3-4 from the field.  She also added two rebounds.

  • Makayla Hostettler led the Trojans in game two with 21 points going 8-14 from the field and dishing out three assists.

  • Game two also saw Jillian Lockard score 19 point going 3-4 from behind the arc while also grabbing six rebounds. 

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

  • In the first game of the season, the Trojans struggled to score no more than eight points in each period.  The basket seemed to have a lid on it shooting 25% from the field.  HLGU also committed too many turnovers which resulted in the Tigers scoring 19 points.

  • The second game saw a much more consistent effort throughout.  HLGU came out and played two solid periods and trailed by two points at the half (32-34).  But they went ice cold in the third quarter only scoring nine points.  

  • The Wildcats scored 23 points off of turnovers committed by the Trojans.

  • Lockard tied the game in the third period after hitting a jumper to even the score at 37 all with eight minutes remaining.

THOUGHTS FROM COACH QUIGLE

  • "We played hard and did a lot of nice things throughout the weekend.  We just struggled to score at times."
