Men's Basketball Drops Double-Overtime Thriller to Eagles

Walnut Ridge, AR – The Hannibal-LaGrange University Men's Basketball Team returned to play Thursday after a break through the holidays, traveling to Arkansas for a conference battle against Williams Baptist University. The Trojans enter looking to turn around from a six-game losing streak and the Eagles come in off a forfeit win.

STAT TRACKER
  • Michael Hood led all scorers with 27 points and went 4-8 from behind the arc and 7-8 from the free throw line.  He also recorded eight rebounds and four assists.
  • Bryce Stark recorded a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. He also added three assists, one steal, and one block.
  • Grant Peters also recorded a double-double tallying 15 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
  • The first half was played extremely tight and saw 18 lead changes between the two teams. WBU grabbed a late one-point lead as the halftime buzzer sounded.
  • The second half was more back and forth, with four more lead changes. The score was tied 61-61 as the final buzzer in regulation sounded.
  • With two seconds to go in overtime and the Trojans leading 74-71, the Eagle's Jayvon Clark hit a three-pointer to knot the game at 74 and send it to a second overtime.
  • In an 80-80 tie with 11 seconds to go, it was Jayvon Clark again for WBU hitting two free-throws that proved to be the deciding points as the Eagles would go on to win 82-80.
  • HLGU out-rebounded WBU 53-45.
  • The Trojans also forced 33 Eagle turnovers while WBU only forced 15 turnovers by HLGU.

  • "We competed every possession and battled until the end.  We need to regroup, and come out with the same energy and effort on Saturday."
