Men's Basketball Needs Overtime to Knock Off Eagles

Hannibal, MO – The Hannibal-LaGrange University Men's Basketball Team played a Monday night conference game against Williams Baptist University at home. The Trojans look to split the season series with WBU after taking a two-point loss in their last matchup on January 6. WBU looks to build off momentum from a close victory over Harris-Stowe last Thursday.

STAT TRACKER
  • Grant Peters led the Trojans with a double-double landing on 21 points and 10 rebounds.  Peters also added in three steals and one assist.
  • Landon Hall hit some key three's down the stretch to end with 17 points, five rebounds, and three assists.  He was 5-7 from behind the arc.
  • Michael Hood also was on throughout the game with 16 points, five assists, and three rebounds.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
  • The Trojans started off the game hot by going on a 7-0 run in the first four minutes of the game.
  • The rest of the first half was very tightly contested with the Eagles making a comeback and taking the lead at the end of the first half and going into halftime with a two-point lead (26-24).
  • The Eagles jumped out to an eight point lead (34-26) just three minutes into the second half.
  • With 15:37 left in the game, WBU hit a two free throws take their biggest lead in the game (10) 40-30.
  • But by 5:19, Landon Hall had hit three, three's and pulled the Trojans to within three points as they trailed 51-54.
  • Michael Hood hit two key free throws to tie the game with two second remaining (56-56).
  • The defense of HLGU was huge in overtime as they held the Eagles to zero points.
  • HLGU came out and hit a layup by Peters and a three from Hall to earn a five point lead in overtime (61-56)
  • The Trojans recorder 38 rebounds while the Eagles had 34.  HLGU also shot a higher shooting percentage from the field and behind the arc.
  • The Men's Team did struggle from the charity stripe going 11-17.

  • "It feels good to be on the winning side of a close game.  We closed out the game with some strong defensive stands and big free throws."
