Lady Trojans Lose Close Battle with Cottey

Nevada, MO – The Hannibal-LaGrange University Women's Basketball Team took on Cottey College tonight in Nevada. The Trojans struggled to score at first but had late game comeback that brought them within two points with less than ten seconds to play but it was not quite enough to get past the Comets with the final score being 55-48. The Trojans will return home for the last game of the season and Senior Day on Saturday against Columbia College.  Four ladies will be celebrated between the men's and women's games.

STAT TRACKER INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
  • The Trojans were slow out of the gate shooting 3-11 (27.3%) in the first quarter and falling behind by 10 (16-6).
  • Both teams struggled to score in the second quarter, each team scoring seven points. HLGU went 2-11 (18.2%) and the Comets went 3-16 (18.8%).
  • Cottey led 23-13 at the break.
  • Hannibal-LaGrange staged a late game comeback, shooting a near-perfect 11-12 (91.7%) from the field in the second half, including 2-2 from deep and 2-2 from the free-throw line.
  • The Trojans were within two points with nine seconds to play and the score at 50-48 after a Jade Scroggins made three. Five made free-throws from Cottey's Claudia Hadlock in the next few seconds of game time would seal the win for the Comets.
  • Three-point shots were a difference maker in the game with HLGU converting on three attempts and Cottey converting seven.
  • Cottey won the rebound battle tonight 42-34.
