Men's Basketball Battles Throughout but Season Ends at NCCAA Regional

Deerfield, IL – The Hannibal-LaGrange University Men's Basketball Team concluded the 2022-23 season at Trinity International University in the North Central Regional of the NCCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. The Trojans found themselves down by 17 at one point in the second half before clawing back.  They ended up taking the lead and putting themselves in a position to win at the end, before falling by a score of 79-73. HLGU looks forward to returning to the floor next November for the 2023-24 season.

  • Jacob Staton led all scorers tonight with 23 points. Staton also had four rebounds, one assist, and one block.
  • Janssen Flotow finished with 21 points after going 6-9 on three-point attempts. Flotow also had four rebounds and one assist.

  • In the first half, TIU shot 8-13 (61.54%) from deep while HLGU shot 3-9 (33.33%).
  • The Trojans gave up nine turnovers in the first half and forced seven TIU turnovers.

  • Hannibal-LaGrange fought and clawed their way back in the second half, with the help of Jacob Staton's shooting from deep.
  • The Trojans regained the lead with 10 minutes left to play.
  • HLGU was within two with seven seconds to go but they were unfortunately unable to make it over the hump and they fell 79-73.
  • Free-throws were a huge difference maker in the game as TIU went 24-29 (82.8%) and the Trojans went 5-10 (50%).
  • TIU had 29 rebounds in the contest and the Trojans had 27.

  • 'We dug ourselves a big hole in the first half, but fought back and kept it close. This group has competed well everyday in practices and games. Sad to see our season end, but proud of our guys."
