HLGU softball wrapped up the Space Coast Spring Games in Melbourne, Florida today finishing with a record of 3-7 on the trip.
The team came back after dropping game one to Mount Vernon Nazarene by catching two wins over Bethel on March 2 and 3. Madyson Klostermann earned the first win, allowing three runs over seven innings while striking out five. Riley Hurt contributed key hits and two RBIs, while Emily Hochstatter scored multiple runs and stole a base. Addyson Carithers had four hits over the two games, including a double and a stolen base, and Kelsey Pflasterer drove in three RBIs.
On March 3, HLGU continued its strong play against Judson, winning 11-4. The offense tallied 15 hits, paced by Caitlyn Hagood with two hits and one run scored, Madilyn Hagood with two hits and one RBI, and Riley Hurt with two hits and one RBI. Alexa Bedford earned the pitching win, giving up four runs in seven innings while striking out two batters. Kelsey Pflasterer and Addyson Carithers also contributed multi-hit games, and Harper Rowell scored a run on a wild pitch.
March 5 brought tougher matchups. HLGU fell to Spring Arbor 10-3. Madilyn Hagood and Megan Riggs each recorded a hit, while Addyson Carithers drove in one run. Later that day, HLGU lost a close game to Bismarck State 8-6. Caitlyn Hagood scored twice, Emily Hochstatter added a run, and Riley Hurt drove in two RBIs.
On March 6, HLGU fell to Cleary 6-0 and Hastings 5-1. Madilyn Hagood doubled and drove in HLGU's lone run against Hastings, while Addyson Carithers scored after reaching base on a hit.
Standout performers for the week included Emily Hochstatter, who scored multiple runs and stole two bases during the trip; Riley Hurt, who had three RBIs and several key hits; and Addyson Carithers, who had 11 hits, 2 RBIs, and 2 stolen bases over the week. Klostermann and Bedford combined for several strong pitching performances, keeping games close even against top opponents.
