Lady Trojans Split With Stars

Columbia, MO – The Hannibal-LaGrange University Softball Team split a doubleheader with Stephens College on Tuesday afternoon. The Trojans outlasted Stephens in an 11-inning thriller to take game one, 5-4, before falling in a tightly contested 4-3 extra-inning battle in game two.

In game one, the Trojans relied on timely hitting and a strong performance in the circle from Madyson Klostermann to secure the win. Klostermann tossed a complete game, going all 11 innings while allowing just three earned runs. Offensively, Emily Hochstatter led the way with a 5-6 performance and an RBI. Madilyn Hagood added three hits and drove in the go-ahead run in the 11th, while Kelsey Pflasterer also recorded three hits. Riley Hurt delivered a sacrifice fly in the 10th to briefly give HLGU the lead before the Trojans ultimately sealed the win an inning later.

Game two saw another close contest, but Stephens used a late run in the eighth inning to walk off with a 4-3 victory. Hochstatter continued her strong day at the plate, going 2-4 with an RBI, while Payton Seip and Kelsey Pflasterer each drove in a run. Abby Schmidt proved to be the difference for Stephens, hitting two home runs in the game. Alexa Bedford went the distance in the circle for HLGU, allowing three earned runs over 7.1 innings in the loss.

HLGU will look to bounce back as they continue conference play Saturday against Columbia College.
