Jason Durst has been part of HLGU athletics since 2002, taking on the responsibility of head men’s basketball coach in 2005. In 2019, Durst led the Trojans to a 4th place finish in the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) Div. 1 National Basketball tournament with an overall record of 19-13. He has also coached 11 AMC All-Conference players, 54 Academic All-Conference players, 7 Academic All-Americans, and 3 NAIA All-Americans during his tenure as head coach. Durst has also been recognized as the AMC “Coach of Character” two times, in 2012 and 2019 respectively. He has also served in the HLGU athletic department as the assistant coach of the men's varsity basketball team (2002-2005), head coach for the men's JV basketball team, sports information director, and the assistant sports complex director.

In 1999, Durst received his bachelor's degree from Culver-Stockton College where he majored in Physical Education/Health. He completed his Master of Science in Education in 2005 from William Woods University. Before coming to HLG, Durst was the assistant varsity boy's basketball coach in Canton, MO. Durst has also coached high school and middle school basketball programs in Missouri and Illinois.

Durst now lives in Palmyra, MO, with his wife Jennifer, and their three children.
