About Juan
Juan Andrés Flórez joins the Hannibal-LaGrange University Men's Soccer program as a freshman from Medellín, Colombia. He plans to major in Computer Science, combining his passion for technology with his commitment to competing at a high level on the soccer field.
Juan arrives at HLGU with an outstanding soccer résumé. In 2022, he helped his club capture the Liga Antioqueña de Fútbol Championship, one of the premier regional competitions in Medellín, Colombia. In 2025, he was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the U-17 Division while competing for Club Alexis García, a respected Colombian club founded by former Colombian National Team player and professional head coach Alexis García.
His dedication to excellence, leadership, and continuous improvement has made him a standout both on and off the field. Juan looks forward to bringing his competitive spirit and international experience to the Trojan soccer program while pursuing a degree in Computer Science.
Why do you participate in athletics?
"Soccer has been part of my life since I was a kid growing up in Medellín. I participate in athletics because the game has taught me discipline, consistency, and how to work as part of a team—lessons that carry over into everything I do, including my academics. Competing pushes me to be the best version of myself every day."
How has participating in athletics prepared you for success?
"Soccer has taught me discipline through years of training almost every day while balancing school. It has made me responsible and taught me how to overcome setbacks. In soccer, you lose games, face disappointment, and sometimes get benched, but you learn to respond by working harder and coming back stronger."
