HLGU Men's Soccer Falls to Brescia on the Road

OWENSBORO, Ky. — September 26, 2026 — The Hannibal-LaGrange University men's soccer team fell 3-0 to Brescia University on Saturday afternoon in Owensboro, Kentucky.

Brescia struck early, finding the back of the net just three minutes into the match when Brodie Finnie scored off an assist from Santiago Garcia Peirat. The early goal gave the Bearcats a 1-0 advantage.

HLGU goalkeeper Cornelius Waibel kept the Trojans within striking distance throughout the opening half, recording four saves over the course of the match. Brescia, however, extended its lead in the 35th minute when Javi Fernandez Albandrea scored off an assist from Xavi Del Monte, sending the Bearcats into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.

The Trojans continued to battle in the second half, creating several opportunities while looking to cut into the deficit. HLGU registered five shots in the second half and earned seven corner kicks over the course of the match.

Brescia added an insurance goal in the 79th minute, with Albandrea scoring his second goal of the afternoon. Del Monte once again provided the assist.

HLGU continued to pressure the Brescia defense late in the match. Rintaro Sato forced a save in the 86th minute, while the Trojans earned three corner kicks in the final 12 minutes. Brescia goalkeeper Jonathan Tucker finished with four saves to preserve the shutout.

Despite the result, HLGU finished the afternoon with nine total shots, including four on goal. Rintaro Sato and Caio Lobo each recorded a shot on goal, while Henry Castillo and Haitam Kaouch also put shots on target.

The Trojans return to action looking to bounce back from the road setback.
