Ben Strother was a member of the Hannibal-LaGrange baseball program from 2005-2009, finishing his collegiate career with four academic all-conference honors. Strother is coming to Hannibal-LaGrange after serving as the head baseball coach at Mark Twain High School for five seasons.
"I am tremendously thrilled and blessed with the opportunity to coach baseball at HLGU," commented Strother. "As a former player and alumni, I have a solid understanding of where this program has been and where it is going, and I am eager and dedicated to continue the work of moving the program forward."
His best season with the Trojans came during in 2009 when he helped HLGU to a 20-28 and 9-9 conference finish. In 48 games played that season, Strother hit for a .361 average while tallying 11 doubles, five home runs, 37 runs scored and 34 RBI's. Strother also served as a team captain during the 2009 season.
"I'm very confident Ben's leadership qualities will be an asset to the HLGU baseball program," stated HLGU Athletic Director Jason Nichols. "He also has a deeply rooted commitment and loyalty to this institution, since it's his alma mater."
Strother graduated from Hannibal-LaGrange as Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. In 2012, he received his Master's of education degree in secondary administration from William Woods University. Strother is currently working on his Ph.D. from Kansas State University.
