Trojans Earn First Conference Series Win Over Mustangs

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 Hannibal, MO - The Hannibal-LaGrange University Baseball Team played host to Central Baptist College on Easter weekend for an AMC conference series. The Trojans won two of the three games to win their first conference series since 2019. In the first game, HLGU got a quality start on the mound from Peyton Nipper allowing three runs in 6.1 innings before the Trojans sealed off the win with a save from Deryk Carey. The Trojans could not keep the bats going in game two, falling 14-0. In the third game, the Trojans were down the whole game but the offense kept the game within striking distance. In the bottom of the ninth, HLGU was down to their last two outs when Cole Trautman hit a towering three-run home run to left field to tie the game at nine. After holding the Mustangs in the top of the tenth, Isaiah Hoelscher delivered the walk-off double to score Mason Tharp from first and clinch the Senior Day win for the Trojans 10-9. The Trojans will be back in action next weekend against Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis.

THOUGHTS FROM COACH BABCOCK
  • "On Senior Day, it was great to have all of the seniors participate in our first conference series win since they were freshmen. I'm most proud of the character of our whole team and how they represented the Lord, HLGU, their teammates, and their families in an intense conference game. Congrats to the seniors today who each played a huge part in our win."
